Bernie’s Sports Racing & V8s is an invited class in their GT CHALLENGE 2021… 30 MINUTE QUALIFYING / 45 MINUTE RACE – COMPULSORY PIT STOP – ONE OR TWO DRIVERS. There is a cash prize of £200 for the winner of the Bernie’s Sports Racing & V8s class, open to drivers registered with the 750 Motor Club in our series. We thank Steve Weston, Competitions Director of the Castle Combe Racing Club, for inviting us.
This is a great opportunity to show our metal to the enthusiastic southwest crowds and to race on a tricky but rewarding circuit. Please get your entry forms back directly to Steve Weston, Castle Combe Racing Club, Castle Combe Circuit, Chippenham, Wiltshire, SN14 7EY. Email: email@example.com
We are pleased to confirm the invitation from the CSCC in co-operation with the 750MC for us to compete at their Donignton race weekend on 26th and 27th September this year.
Dave Smitheram of the CSCC writes “Thanks again for your involvement at Thruxton last month. Once again we think the mix of cars worked well. We look forward to having you at Donington at the end of September; please find attached the entry form and SR’s. 20 minutes of qualifying and two races of 15 minutes. Apologies that your races are spread across two days, it couldn’t be helped on this occasion; driver will have qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and then I’ll timetable them for a mid-morning Sunday race so they can get away in good time. Your drivers are most welcome to join us in the Open Series races on treaded 1A/B/C tyres too (which I believe you run anyway) at an entry fee reduced from £410 to £310 as a second race (20 minutes of qualifying and two races of 20 minutes)”.
NEWS: 10th/11th October 2020 at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium
We have been invited to take part in a new race that is being held at Spa for us, the Barry Sideways Spa One Hour Race. The cost for this race is going to be extremely keen at just 350 euros for 30 minutes qualifying and a 1 hour race ! Phenomenal value for that amount of track time at Spa.
The annual event is a collaboration between Motor Classic (Vincent Collard who worked with Barry Sideways Smith for 20 years organising races at Spa) and Cheng Lim. This race accepts a wide variety of Classic Sports cars, GT’s, Touring and Saloon cars, built between the ’50s and the ’80s, except * Caterhams, Westfields, Lotus 7 types and Crosslés are not accepted * Open wheels, Formula, Single seater cars are not accepted Cars must be presented in an appearance that reflects the period in which they raced.
Cheng says “I was once second on the grid between a genuine Lola T70 and a Chevron B16.” See the photo below
Further to the announcement from MSV that visitors will be able to attend race meetings from 11th July, MSUK have emailed clubs to confirm the same. That means visitors, helpers and families can accompany our drivers to race meetings from that date. Excellent news.
Hygiene and safety measures will be in place. Remember that drivers will be responsible for their group. Still limited to 4 tickets including children and a lot more paperwork.
Our race calendar is at https://berniessportsracing.com/2020-race-calendar/

Motorsport UK COVID-19 Update Tue, 17 Mar 2020 14:16:00 +0000
It is with regret that Motorsport UK is suspending all organising permits and Certificates of Exemption until at least 30th April 2020. This suspension follows the latest guidance issued by HM UK Government in response to the outbreak of COVID-19. This position will be constantly reviewed given prevailing information.
As the National Governing Body, we would ask all Motorsport UK members to act responsibly and follow the Government’s guidance during this difficult time.
We thank all of our members, organisers, officials, volunteers, staff and their families for their support during these unprecedented times. We will continue to monitor the situation and will resume sporting activity as soon as we are able. We also have a responsibility and duty of care to our staff who will be working from home, so please be patient with any queries you may have.
David Richards, chairman of Motorsport UK, explained, “Clearly we live in challenging times and exceptional measures are required. The decision to suspend Motorsport UK permits on a temporary basis is not one that was taken lightly as the industry employs many thousands of people. However we have an over-riding responsibility to our members and the friends and families of our community. Furthermore, our social responsibilities extend to the broader population and the potential drain on valuable public health resources on which we are all reliant.
“The situation is very fluid and we will continue to monitor developments over the coming weeks and hope that we can resume the annual motorsport calendar at the opportune moment. In the immediate short term our efforts need to be focused on ensuring that the industry that backs up the sport has the financial support that it requires from the Government in order that it can be sustained beyond this extraordinary scenario.”
